Ochoco National Forest, OR
Feb. 21-24, Tue-Fri
Intermediate Ski on ungroomed trails
Do you want to escape from it all in a quiet corner of Oregon (18 miles outside of Prineville) with good snow and intermediate/easy terrain? Join this 3 day midweek trip to the former Ochoco National Forest Ranger Station where there’s no cell service or TV. Two bedrooms have double beds and the 3rd bedroom has 3 twin beds. There’s a full bathroom downstairs and a half bath upstairs. The kitchen is fairly well equipped for any “gourmet” cooking we may want to do.
The Walton Lake area has 6 ski trails; Bandit Springs has 7 ski trails (rated easy to most difficult), but is at a lower elevation than Walton Lake. On one of the past trips when there was no snow at Bandit Springs, we drove to the Painted Hills – another beautiful sight in Eastern Oregon. For carpooling, it is approximately 350 miles round trip, plus excursions to ski or sight-see.
