About the Portland Chapter

The local Portland chapter, one of 10 ONC chapters in the state, was established as a nonprofit volunteer organization in 1968 by Nordic ski enthusiasts interested in using public lands for recreational cross-country skiing. We are dedicated to promoting greater participation in, and understanding the value of, outdoor recreation with an emphasis on Nordic and backcountry skiing. During the winter the club sponsors numerous overnight trips to destinations throughout the Northwest and beyond, and organizes day tours to Mt. Hood and SW Washington. In the summer volunteer work parties care for and improve local ski trails. Club members also hike, climb, backpack, bicycle, and paddle together throughout the year on our Northwest forests, mountains, roads, and waters.  For more on the history of the Oregon Nordic Club, visit the State website.
