Mt Hood – Bennett Pass the Hard Way – Intermediate Tour

WHEN: 18-Nov-2017 / All Day

18 November 2017 (Saturday)
Approximately 8-10 miles with 1,500-2,000 feet elevation gain through the day

Well, we had a wonderful tour last Friday and the forecast just calls for more snow with the snow level
dropping to 3,500 feet on Saturday so it looks like winter is here to stay! Let’s go out, enjoy the short days of winter and discuss what we’ll eat at Thanksgiving

For those tired skiing the out-and-back on Bennett pass, this is a variant which turns it into a loop tour. We start out by dropping into Pocket Creek on the Pocket Creek Tie trail. This is a fun downhill which requires intermediate turning capability. We follow along the base of Bennett ridge for a few miles until we run out of room and are forced to turn uphill onto an old logging road. We work our way up and intersect the Bennett Ridge Trail. At this point we head back the usual way: cross the famed “TERRIBLE TRAVERSE” (which will be a piece of cake this early in the season), S-curves, and finally and fast downhill finish to the sno-park. This tour has a mix of road and trail skiing. Good fitness is required and intermediate level turning for trail sections and S-curves. Please do not sign up for this tour if you do not meet these requirements.

To be on this tour you must contact me by e-mail in advance. I do this so that I can send each potential participant an info packet with more info on difficulty and expectations for this tour. Additionally, I want all your e-mail addresses so that in case the trip is cancelled I can contact everyone. Sorry for the hassle related with this but I need to ensure a safe tour.
