About the program:
Vancouver Island’s West Coast Trail: Impressions from two 6-day backpacking journeys
Bill Stein, new ONC trip leader and Mazamas trip leader since 2014, will share his photos and stories from two 6-day backpacking journeys on the West Coast Trail, southbound in June 2016 and northbound in June 2018. The 2016 family trip was prior to Canada’s 2017 sesquicentennial, and they had vastly improved many of the rotten boardwalks in time for the 2018 Mazamas trip. You’ll hear lots about ladders, tides, slick surfaces, and wildlife. You’ll gain an understanding of the rhythm of each day on the trail, which should not be hiked quickly. You’ll get information for planning your own adventure there, such as there’s nowhere to charge devices but there’s U.S. phone service at every beachside campsite. You’ll also learn what’s changed on the trail most recently. Come hear about the trail that some call, though Bill would love to differ, the best on earth.
Hope to see you in person or online!
