Methow, North Central Washington, which has the largest XC trail system in North America with over 120 miles of trails, has so much to offer. It is located in the beautiful Methow Valley. This overnight trip hosted by ONC-PDX is scheduled for December 28 (Thursday) through Tuesday January 2nd. Two condominiums, both adjacent to each other, (Artic Dream and Aurora Borealis) have been secured just outside of Winthrop providing the opportunity to ski and socialize with your fellow ONC-PDX friends. Plan for potluck dinners each evening with each household hosting dinners on different nights.
Methow is the mecca for XC skiers worldwide. It is ideally suited for both classic track skiing and skate skiing (and snowshoeing). The Methow Valley Association grooms over 120 miles of trails through the communities of Winthrop and Mazama. Trail elevations range from 2,000 to 4,000 feet. The snow conditions and trail quality make the Methow valley a skier’s dream.
If you have considered learning to skate ski, lessons are available at Sun Mountain and in Mazama. Usually, there is a unique ski demonstration of old-time skiers and their equipment on New Year’s Day. For a break from skiing, there is even a wonderful ice-skating rink in town!
