Celebrate President’s Weekend in Eastern Oregon sunshine.Leaving on Thursday, Feb. 12, and returning on Monday, Feb. 16, will give us plenty of time to explore this less traveled area. It’s about a 4-hour drive from Portland, so on the way we could enjoy a soak at Carson Hot Springs and/or a walk along the Deschutes River.

Our vacation home is the cozy, comfortable Weston Mountain Lodge, about a 30-minute drive from the Horseshoe Prairie Nordic ski area and just down the road from Weston, Oregon (pop. 705, up from 667 in 2010.)

Airbnb says, “Weston Mountain Lodge is a grand, open space full of natural light that feels intimate and cozy too. The house and land feel magical and “otherworldly”—a quiet oasis tucked off life’s busy path.”

Bring your suits to enjoy a hot tub soak. There will be opportunities to play board games and sing along with the lodge’s upright piano and guitar, if group members wish. We’ll share three dinners (Fri – Sun), and breakfast oats will be provided.

This trip is designed for intermediate skiers. We will ski in the Horseshoe Prairie area in the Umatilla Forest and perhaps explore nearby ski areas. It’s important that you be in good enough shape and have the skills to keep up with a group. It’s remote, so it’s especially not a good place to ski alone.

Trip limit:  8 participants
Cost:  $370 per person, including 4 nights lodging and 4 breakfasts, coffee and tea.  Excludes cost of travel and shared meals.
Travel miles:  From Portland, 485 miles round trip, plus mileage to the ski areas
