3 miles ski, 2 miles in cave
We will ski the Lava Cast forest (1 mile round trip) “an interesting short side trip for poking around” on the way to Ape Cave – 1.1 miles each way on road 8303. Bring 2 lights for cave and maybe a (bike?) helmet for the cave. (I did not see anyone with helmets when I did this, but the walls protrude in right around head level, so a bump could be unpleasant at best). If no snow (likely) we can hike nearby (Lava Canyon? in addition to the Cave hike), or if the cave entrance is too icy we can ski further up the road etc.
