DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, December 5th3 miles ski\, 2 miles in caveWe will ski
  the Lava Cast forest (1 mile round trip) “an interesting short side tri
 p for poking around” on the way to Ape Cave – 1.1 miles each way on ro
 ad 8303.  Bring 2 lights for cave and maybe a (bike?) helmet for the cave
 .  (I did not see anyone with helmets when I did this\, but the walls pro
 trude in right around head level\, so a bump could be unpleasant at best).
  If no snow (likely) we can hike nearby (Lava Canyon? in addition to the C
 ave hike)\, or if the cave entrance is too icy we can ski further up the r
