A Mountain of Resources

Have you ever been wanting some information to help prepare for a ski trip?  Maybe for the day or an overnighter?  Maybe you wanted to know about weather and road conditions?  Or to find a trail map?  Perhaps you had questions about ski gear and clothing?  Want to take some lessons, find a rental, or what have you?  Well we have a mountain of information right on our website that you can access in a couple of clicks.   Full disclosure, most of what I’m about point out has been compiled over the years and provided by others.

I’m referring to the Ski Info and Resources page, actually a jump-off to several other pages covering various topics to help you get prepared and keep you going.  You can find it on the main menu as Ski Resources or on the For Members page as Info for Skiing.  Either way, it’ll get you to the same place, namely here:  https://onc-pdx.org/ski-info-and-resources/; how’s that for a url?

When you open the page, you’ll find several colorful and clickable buttons, each with a descriptive topic giving you a hint of what’s underneath.  Do try them out (on the real page, they won’t work here).   And if you’re wondering the photos you see, they are from/of members.  Share yours via Google photos with photos@pdxnordic.org.

Drilling down into the topics, here are a few of the things that you’ll find:

  • Weather Conditions has not only info about Mt. Hood, but also road conditions and avalanche info both locally and all across PNW; places we often go to on overnight trips.
  • Trails and Maps is a great resource for, well, just what it says.  Hats off to Scott Diamond for compiling all the great info about ski tours, including GPS tracks and a whole database on CalTopo.  This alone is worth the price of membership.
  • Rentals and Retailers is where you can find gear locally, and keep in mind, some of them offer a discount for being a club member.
  • Ski Lessons has something for everyone from beginner to advanced skiers looking to sharpen their skills.
  • Day Tour and Overnight Trip leaders may want to check out Safety Classes for further skill development, plus some discounts that are available to you.

Special mention to Club Policies, Activity Waiver and Carpooling Info.  Everyone should be familiar with these and have signed a waiver (just once a year does it) before participating in a club activity.

There’s a lot more, so go explore.  And if you have a suggestion or find a broken link or anything, please send a note to website@pdxnordic.org
