Eleven of us wandered to Odell Lake for two days of skiing. Anxiety prevailed at our planning meeting due to the snow conditions that seemed to promise hard icy conditions the next day. Most skiers planned to ski the Gold Lake Road trail the next day and two decided to ski the Willamette Ski Resort Nordic trails. All skiers experienced challenging conditions but beautiful weather on Saturday, with some saying that they have never experienced worse conditions.
After a wonderful potluck dinner, the planning discussion resulted in a plan for most of the group to drive two hours and ski the West Rim Road at Crater Lake, while one drove one and a half hours the other way to ski the Nordic trails in the Bend area. The potluck dinner discussion on Saturday night was very different, with everyone having had a wonderful day of skiing in beautiful spring-like weather.
As we were leaving the next day a snow storm closed in on Odell Lake, promising better skiing conditions to the ONC overnight trip coming to the area two days later.
