The 2021-22 New Year’s trip to Black Butte Ranch had all the ingredients for success: friendly and interesting people, delicious food, a spacious house, and more than generous snowfall. On the first day, some skiers ventured out to Ray Benson Sno-Park to ski on the summit trails; they reported excellent conditions. The rest of us never left the ranch. We skied on the two golf courses, breaking trails in perfect powder conditions. I have led this trip for more than five years and have never seen so much snow. The only downside was that driving to other areas like Three Creeks Lake was impossible with all the heavy snow. Even so, we still managed to ski to our hearts’ content and got all the fresh air and exercise we wanted. The group’s overall consensus was: “Let’s do it again next year!”
