What’s it like on an overnight trip?

The general consensus is: fun! A typical trip is within a day’s drive from Portland, maybe two. We promote carpooling, so drivers are much appreciated. We’ve also taken the train or even flown to some of the further destinations. Typical stays are 3-5 nights sharing a rented house or other lodging. We look for places that accommodate a group of singles and couples comfortably enough.

Generally, there are kitchen facilities where we take turns putting together a potluck dinner. Breakfast and lunch are usually on our own. The trip leader helps coordinate things and everyone pitches in to help make the trip a success and a good time for all.

Then there’s the skiing. We have skied in some world class Nordic areas. Or sometimes it’s discovering a new and little known place. By the end of the trip, you’re bound to have new friends or will have caught up with old ones.

So what are some of the benefits of doing it this way? It’s a lot easier than trying to put together a trip solo. We feel it’s fairly economical too, from carpooling to shared lodging, and sometimes group discounts. You have a group of people to ski with and to share a good time with. The longevity of our program speaks for itself.

To get a better idea, you can peruse some of the old trip descriptions or read the trip reports in the archive of newsletters. Better yet, sign on up, there’s always fun times.
