Mark Fitzsimons and Janice Snyder lead the Yellowstone National Park Dream Trip Feb. 18 – 25.

Yellowstone is one of the world’s greatest wonders – in winter, something magical happens…. Solitude. Peace. Quiet. Stillness. Combine cross-country skiing and snowshoeing with steaming, bubbling thermal features, wildlife everywhere, dramatic scenery, comfortable lodging, and more! ONC-PDX has skied the park for over 30 years and some members go every winter. Whether it’s your first or fifteenth time, seize this opportunity to experience the dream: YELLOWSTONE IN WINTER! Twenty lucky ONC members will have the opportunity Presidents’ Day Weekend 2024.

Carpool from Portland on Saturday, February 17 to arrive Sunday afternoon at Mammoth Hot Springs near the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park.  Meet for dinner at the historic Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel and stay in newly remodeled rooms with two queen beds and private baths.  Board a snow coach at 7:45 AM Monday for a several hour tour to Old Faithful, where we stay in modern western cabins with two queen beds and private baths.

Spend three days skiing among the magnificent geysers, pools, and bubbling springs of the Old Faithful basin, up to the Continental Divide, and the Mallard Lake Ski Trail, all while viewing elk and bison (and perhaps wolves), catching the Yellowstone that most tourists miss. We expect dry snow and clear days.

Friday afternoon, we return to Mammoth Hot Springs for two more nights. On Saturday, ski in areas accessible from the Mammoth Basin Area – Tower, Indian Creek, or the Lamar Valley and its world-famous wildlife viewing. Share stories with friends over breakfast on Sunday, then leave for home, relaxed and full of memories of our adventures and animal sightings. There is a wide selection of trails available, from beginning to advanced, something for every desire.

This trip offers off-trail options for members who have the competence and equipment needed to enjoy and navigate ungroomed and downhill slopes under varied snow conditions.  The trip leader will assist participants in reviewing specific tour options and facilitate organizing tour groups of those interested.

Included are 7 nights lodging, double occupancy (3 at Mammoth and 4 at Old Faithful) and guided snow coach to Old Faithful and return to Mammoth.  Breakfasts, lunches, and dinners are available in the dining rooms but are not included in the per-person cost above.  We have reservations for dinners at the Mammoth and Old Faithful Snow Lodge dining rooms. Yellowstone National Park entry fees (or passes) required but not included.

Consider beginning your trip a few days early or extending the trip for one or more days at the end. It is also possible to fly to Bozeman to avoid the drive. Please contact the tour leader for information. Also consider joining the ONC Sun Valley/Stanley Basin ski trip (2/13-2/17); drive to West Yellowstone to ski the Riverside and Rendezvous trails; then join this trip the evening of 2/18. For return home, most participants make the (~13 hour) drive home in one day (on Sunday 2/25).

If the registration page shows the trip as full, please join the waitlist online or email the trip leader. There are almost always cancellations so chances are very good you will be able to get on the trip.  For additional information about this trip, please contact the trip leader.
