Let’s ski up West Leg Road, the original road that led to Timberline Lodge. The trail starts near Government Camp at about 4,000 ft. and goes up gaining altitude and hopefully more snow. This makes it a good trail to do early in the season. If we go all the way to Timberline, it is a 5.3-mile uphill tour (10.6 round trip) with an elevation gain of 1,950 feet. The drawback of this trail is that it is all uphill until we turn around to go back to the cars and then it is all downhill. Do not sign up for this trip if you are not able to snowplow enough to control your speed. Downhill skills are needed. Meet at 8:50 a.m. in the west parking lot of Edgefield, ready to leave by 9:00 a.m. but contact the trip leader first. Take I-84 to Exit 16 (Wood Village,) right turn to first stoplight, then left on Halsey for about half a mile, then right into McMenimins. For more info and to RSVP (required) contact the leader Mary Hepokoski, cell 503.442.0620 hepomp8@comcast.net
It is important to know who plans to come, and if you have a snow worthy car and can drive.
