Intermediate Backcountry Ski
Friday and Saturday night stay in the historic Tilly Jane Guard Station. We’ll backcountry ski to the ONC-PDX managed cabin on the Northeast side of Mt. Hood, a 3 mile ski with a 1,900-foot gain up the Tilly Jane Ski Trail to the cabin at 5,700 feet elevation. Participants carry their own gear, including sleeping bags and food for all meals. There is no running water in the cabin, melt snow or fetch water from TJ Creek for drinking and dishes. We recommend all water be treated for drinking. There are sleeping pads at the cabin (you might bring a cover as they are foam and can be dirty). We have a propane stove and oven for cooking meals and heating water. There are cooking pots and pans, cups, plates and flatware at the cabin. There is a pit toilet and TP is provided.
Experienced intermediate skiing skills with turning ability, good physical condition and navigation/route finding skills using map, compass or GPS. Climbing skins are REQUIRED.
Trip Limit: 4 max, Open to ONC members only with preference given to Tilly Jane volunteers (Reduced Capacity due to COVID)
Cost: Free (another club benefit). You must be an ONC member to sign up for this trip.
