All Abilities XC Ski on Groomed trails, Skate ski, Fat Tire Bike
Washington’s Methow Valley, on the West slope of the North Cascades Range, features over 200 km of groomed trails for classic and skate skiing at all levels, from riverside loops to steep and strenuous climbs and descents. Enjoy four days of world class Nordic skiing ranging from 2000 to 4000+ ft elevation. Options include fat tire biking if you are so inclined. Lessons are available for classic and skate. We plan to ski from Sun Mountain, the Rendezvous system, Mazama area, and Winthrop. The possibilities are endless with so much groomed terrain and (typically) great snow conditions.
The Cascade Condominiums are nicely apportioned and equipped for our group of 12. We have 4 double rooms for 4 couples and 2 twin rooms for 4 singles. Between the two condos, we have two kitchens and 5 bathrooms. How could anyone not love this place?
Plan on potluck dinners, pack lunches for the trail, and make our own breakfasts.
The drive to Winthrop from Portland is 400 miles and we typically allow the entire day.
Renting skis? You are probably better off getting them at a ski shop in Winthrop. In the event you need to change the ski size or the boots are uncomfortable the ski shop is completely accommodating.
Our trailheads do not require a Sno-park permit but we will need to purchase the groomed trail pass when we get there.
