Imagine President’s Weekend without the crowds and without driving your car!  Imagine taking an overnight train to the historic Izaak Walton Inn, providing the opportunity to ski in Glacier National Park in Montana!  Imagine staying in a former train caboose or historic lodge or large cabin!  Imagine the opportunity to do track skiing and/or backcountry skiing!  Imagine doing this with your new and old Nordic Club friends!  That is what the ONC-PDX Glacier National Park trip at the historic Izaak Walton Inn is all about!

We will take Amtrak overnight to Izaak Walton Inn, Essex, Montana, adjacent to Glacier National Park for a wonderful ski vacation!  We will leave Portland on Friday afternoon, February 17 and arrive Saturday morning, to (hopefully) sparkling snow and the cozy Izaak Walton Inn.  On Saturday through Monday, we will ski or snowshoe on the 30 km of groomed trails, or explore the backcountry in the Magnificent Dickey Bowl, Marias Pass, and other trails.  Relax in the Finnish sauna or Olympic size hot tub.  Each night, we can enjoy a gourmet meal in the restaurant (or prepare your own dinner in the cabin or caboose), read a good book by the fire, participate in exciting board games, have a drink in the bar, or relax. We have reserved a large cabin, a train caboose, and rooms in the historic Izaak Walton Inn.  On Monday night, February 20, we will board the westbound overnight train back to Portland in the evening.  As we pull back into the train station in Portland on Tuesday morning, you will wonder why you waited so long to take this trip.

A limited number of sleeper accommodations will be available on Amtrak for an additional cost of $420 per person.  You may select this option when you sign up.  Check the link for details of choosing this option.

If online sign up (in October) shows the trip as full, please join the waitlist. There are almost always cancellations so chances are very good you will be able to get on the trip.

Trip limit: 20 participants, including the leader and co-leader
Cost: $415 per person; includes three days of skiing (trail passes included), all transportation, two nights lodging, double occupancy at Izaak Walton Inn. Meals on the train and at Izaak Walton Inn are available for purchase at an additional cost.  Optional sleeper cost of $420 per person.
Travel miles:  No carpool is planned. 14.5 hours via Amtrak one-way.
