Haines, OR
Jan. 22-27, Wed-Mon
Advanced Intermediate
The Anthony Lakes area has a plentiful supply of gorgeous high altitude, untracked, backcountry terrain that’s just begging to be skied – by us! Our group of 10 skiers will stay five nights at a roomy, comfortable school house turned lodge just west of Haines with relatively quick access to the snow. Over five nights, we’ll choose a variety of backcountry routes. Alpine skiing is also available at Anthony Lakes Resort, where folks over 70 ski for free, and all ski for just $30 on Thursdays.
With a 7100 foot base elevation, Anthony Lakes has some of the earliest, lightest and most consistent snow in Oregon. It’s a smallish, community owned ski area high on quality skiing and low on pretension And, that’s not all. Anthony Lakes Nordic Center grooms 30 km of trails.
Since the focus of this trip is backcountry, it’s best suited for advanced-intermediate skiers. Participants will need the skills to turn and stop in powder terrain, sometimes amid trees while on Nordic skis. Depart home Wednesday Jan., 22 and return Monday the 27th. Approximately 700 miles. Breakfasts of overnight oats, fruit, yogurt, coffee and tea will be provided.
