The Anthony Lakes area has plenty of gorgeous, high altitude, untracked, backcountry terrain that’s just begging to be skied – by us!  Our group will stay five nights at a roomy, comfortable school house turned lodge just west of Haines with relatively quick access to the snow.  Over five nights, we’ll choose a variety of backcountry routes.  Alpine skiing is also available at Anthony Lakes Resort, where folks over 70 years of age ski for free, and all ski for just $30 onThursdays.  With a base elevation of 7100 feet, Anthony Lakes has some of the earliest, lightest and consistent snow in Oregon.  It’s a smallish, community owned ski area high on quality skinning and low on pretension   And, that’s not all:  Anthony Lakes Nordic Center grooms 30 km of trails.

Since the focus of this trip is backcountry, it’s best suited for advanced-intermediate skiers.  Participants will need the skills to turn and stop in powder, sometimes amid trees while on Nordic skis.   Depart Portland Wednesday Jan., 22 and return Monday the 27th.  Approximately 700 miles.  Breakfasts of overnight oats, fruit, yogurt, coffee and tea will be provided.

Trip limit:  10 participants including leader, spouse and co-lead
Cost:  $335 per member
Travel miles:  From Portland, about 700 miles round trip, plus mileage to the ski areas
Trip Leader:  Donna Wiench, dwiench@gmail.com
