SUMMARY:Ochoco Mountains -- Trip #3
DESCRIPTION:The Ochocos are located 30 miles east of Prineville\, OR. The h
 igh elevation of 4\,800 to 6\,200 feet and desert location provide for exc
 ellent dry snow conditions and unsurpassed views of the Cascades. Because 
 of the location and the high elevation\, we usually experience sunny skies
 \, or snow fall. There is rarely a rainy winter day here. The trails are o
 ver gentle\, rolling hills covered with stands of old growth Ponderosa and
  lodge Pole Pines. The well-marked trail system by the Ochoco Chapter of t
 he ONC offers all levels of skiing\, from easy to difficult. We’ll split
  up into groups based on ability levels and ski both Saturday and Sunday.A
 ccommodations are in a former well-appointed forest ranger cabin (elevatio
 n about 3\,000 feet) with three bedrooms\, one and a half baths. It is hea
 ted and has water\, but no cell hone coverage! Participants must bring sle
 eping bags\, pillows\, and towels. We must pack out all garbage. We’ll p
 otluck dinner for Saturday night meal. Bring your own breakfast and lunche
 s. The drive is about three hours from Portland.Trip limit: 7 participants
